Baseball Game Preview: McAllen Memorial Mustangs vs. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North Raiders

The McAllen Memorial Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with McAllen Memorial sitting on four straight wins and Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North on five.

McAllen Memorial is headed into the game having just posted their closest victory since February 28th on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial, sneaking past 3-1.

Rj Rios spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 16 Ks. He is becoming a predictor of McAllen Memorial's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is undefeated (and 9-10 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Eloy Lozano, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Meanwhile, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North got themselves on the board against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial on Saturday, but Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Wolverines with a sharp 13-0 win. Considering the Raiders have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North pushed their record up to 23-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for McAllen Memorial, their victory bumped their record up to 13-10.

McAllen Memorial came up short against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 7-2. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
