Basketball Recap: Will Malchow Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat West Central

Winamac won the last time they faced West Central and things went their way on Friday too. The Winamac Warriors managed a 58-53 win over the West Central Trojans.

Winamac's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Will Malchow, who went 7 for 9 on his way to 17 points. What's more, Malchow also racked up three assists, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Brendan Hines was another key player, putting up 12 points and four steals.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Christian Hughes, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards. Hughes has become a key player for West Central: the team is 8-3 when he posts at least ten rebounds, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Bryce Nannenga, who posted 13 points and five steals.

Winamac is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for West Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-5.

Winamac is taking a road trip to take on Rensselaer Central at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Winamac is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.2 points per game this season. As for West Central, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, an 82-50 victory against Knox on the 1st.
