Softball Preview: Poth Pirates vs. Luling Eagles

The Poth Pirates will square off against the Luling Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

As a matter of fact, Poth put up the most runs they have all season on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 26-1 margin over Stockdale. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won 14 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Abby Skloss looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Poth got a massive performance out of Brevyn Brockman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those four runs gave Brockman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kynzlie Gaylor, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base.

Poth hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 13-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Luling entered their tilt with Nixon-Smiley on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Mustangs.

Nedeyin Magallanez tossed a big game, striking out 17 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hazel Bohac, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs. Peyton Taylor was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Luling now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Poth, their win bumped their record up to 18-6.
