Recap: La Pryor Bulldogs vs. Sabinal Yellowjackets

The La Pryor Bulldogs''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Sabinal on the road and fell 42-3. La Pryor was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-0.

Dareon Vasquez threw for 93 yards on nine of 20 attempts. Abel Longoria was his top target, rushing for six yards. On the ground, Camilo Portillo threw for no yards on no of no attempts.

Sabinal's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew McCauley, who picked up 120 receiving yards and two touchdowns. McCauley was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 64 yards. Israel Gonzales was in the mix as well, providing Sabinal with two touchdowns.

The team's defense also helped out by holding La Pryor to a paltry 157 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Sabinal's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Aiden Tinker and Diego Valdez who racked up five sacks between them.

La Pryor has traveled a rocky road this season, as they've lost five of their first six contests, which is still a better percentage than their 1-6 record this season. Sabinal is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 3-3 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing D'Hanis the next time they take the field. La Pryor will host D'Hanis at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Sabinal will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on October 21st.
