Softball Recap: John Carroll Catholic Picks Up Sixth Straight Win on the Road

John Carroll Catholic waltzed into their contest on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over the Vero Beach Indians. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.

Makayla Ortiz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, John Carroll Catholic let Mackenzie Mostoller and Samantha Rychter run wild. Mostoller went 3-for-5 with two RBI and one double, while Rychter scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most hits Mostoller has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Isabella Ramirez, who scored a run while going 3-for-5.

John Carroll Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vero Beach only posted an OBP of .250.

John Carroll Catholic pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Vero Beach, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Coming up, John Carroll Catholic will face off against Treasure Coast at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Vero Beach, they will take on Lincoln Park Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Indians are facing the Greyhounds at the right time seeing as the Greyhounds are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
