Softball Recap: Madison County Triumphs

Madison County got themselves on the board against St. John Paul II on Thursday, but St. John Paul II never followed suit. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over the Panthers. The Cowboys haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Not much got past Alden Bass, who gave up just two hits and racked up 14 Ks to keep St. John Paul II off the board. Bass has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Emma Rogers was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was AnnaKayte Smith, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Madison County's victory bumped their record up to 14-3. As for St. John Paul II, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-7.

Madison County and St. John Paul II should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. The Cowboys will challenge Florida State University High School at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (63 vs. 296). Meanwhile, St. John Paul II (ranked 116th) will meet Rickards (ranked 447th) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
