Basketball Recap: Jayden Evenson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Moffat County over Steamboat Springs

Moffat County lost against Steamboat Springs back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Moffat County Bulldogs fell just short of the Steamboat Springs Sailors by a score of 50-48. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Moffat County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayden Evenson, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 12 points and eight boards. The dominant performance gave Evenson a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenyen Camilletti, who went 6 for 14 en route to 15 points.

Jeffrey Sturges continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Steamboat Springs, going 10 of 22 on his way to 32 points along with six rebounds and three steals. The game was Sturges' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Reece Hoy was another key player, putting up seven points.

Moffat County's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Steamboat Springs, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-10.

Moffat County is taking a road trip to square off against Coal Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Coal Ridge's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests. Steamboat Springs has already played their next match (against Delta), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
