Softball Recap: Newton Local's Winning Streak Snapped at Five Games

Newton Local dropped their record down to 8-4 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They lost 13-3 to the Ansonia Tigers. If the Indians were looking for revenge after losing 7-1 to the Tigers when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Ansonia, the victory got them back to even at 8-8. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

For Ansonia's part, they got a great performance from Bre Walker as she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.

At the plate, Ansonia let Addie Geyer and Miley Walls run wild. Geyer went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two doubles, while Walls went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Geyer has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Avalyn Locke, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newton Local will square off against Twin Valley South at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Ansonia, they will challenge National Trail at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Blazers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.71 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
