Dedham is 7-2 against Westwood since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Marauders will head out to take on the Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. Dedham is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
On Thursday, Dedham came up short against Norwood and fell 6-3.
Dedham saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joslyn Roberts, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run. Emmy Lange was another, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Westwood made easy work of Ashland on Thursday and carried off a 14-1 win. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.
Bridget Mulkeen made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Abby Johnson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Mia Poles, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Westwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Westwood has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Dedham, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8-1.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Dedham hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. However, it's not like Westwood struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dedham might still be hurting after the 8-0 defeat they got from Westwood when the teams last played back in April. Can the Marauders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
