Basketball Recap: McEachern Comes Up Short

McEachern lost against Campbell on January 9th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The McEachern Indians took a 62-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Campbell Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 161st, while the Spartans are ranked 17th).

When it comes to explaining why McEachern lost, don't look at Ava Couzens. Despite the final result, she went 6 for 15 on her way to 18 points in addition to five boards and four steals. The dominant performance gave Couzens a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Exxence Hubbard, who posted ten points.

Campbell's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Marlie Battle, who put up eight points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Battle has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. Gabrielle Parish was another key player, going 5 of 10 en route to 11 points.

McEachern is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-13. As for Campbell, they pushed their record up to 20-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McEachern has already played their next match (against South Cobb), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Campbell has also has no score uploaded for their next game, this one against Pebblebrook.
