Soccer Game Preview: Mt. Vernon vs. Marion

Mt. Vernon hasn't had much luck against Marion recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Rams will take on the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. Mt. Vernon's last four matchups have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Mt. Vernon is likely headed into the game with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Carterville on Monday. The Rams fell just short of the Lions by a score of 1-0.

Meanwhile, Marion entered their tilt with Murphysboro on Monday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They came within a single goal of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Red Devils.

Marion pushed their record up to 11-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 35 goals over those six contests. As for Mt. Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.

Mt. Vernon suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Marion in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
