Basketball Game Preview: Governor's School for Science & Math Eagles vs. Lamar Silver Foxes

Governor's School for Science & Math is 1-9 against Lamar since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Governor's School for Science & Math Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Lamar Silver Foxes at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Governor's School for Science & Math is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 17th straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They took a blow against C.A. Johnson, falling 97-26. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 298th, while the Hornets are ranked 130th).

Meanwhile, Lamar was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 48-44 to Great Falls. The Silver Foxes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Governor's School for Science & Math will need to focus on slowing down Lamont Williams, one of several Lamar players who made an impact when they last played. He dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards. Williams has been hot for a while, having posted ten or more rebounds the last 15 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of NyShaun 'Shaun' Quillen, who posted 11 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Lamar smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 22 consecutive contests.

Lamar's loss dropped their record down to 9-15. As for Governor's School for Science & Math, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-14.

Governor's School for Science & Math was taken down by Lamar 65-27 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Williams, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.
