Basketball Recap: Las Lomas Gets Big Win over Higher-Ranked Campolindo

Las Lomas hadn't done well against Campolindo recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Las Lomas Knights secured a 58-53 W over the Campolindo Cougars. The win was all the more spectacular given the Knights' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while the Cougars are ranked 70th).

Despite the loss, Campolindo still got an impressive performance from Ren Marchetti, who went 7 of 15 on his way to 26 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That's the most steals Marchetti has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gavin Rendle, who posted eight points.

Las Lomas has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.8 points per game. As for Campolindo, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-5.

Las Lomas will face off against St. Joseph Notre Dame at 10:45 a.m. on Monday. St. Joseph Notre Dame knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Las Lomas likes a good challenge. As for Campolindo, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 46-36 victory against Irvington on the 18th.
