Basketball Recap: Lewis-Palmer Rangers vs. Air Academy Kadets
After a string of four wins, the Lewis-Palmer Rangers's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They were beaten by Air Academy 72-28. Lewis-Palmer has struggled against the Kadets recently, as their matchup on Wednesday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Lewis-Palmer lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kendall Lane. Despite the final result, she scored nine points along with five rebounds. Rylee Edmondson was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Air Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tatyonna Brown, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 16 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brown has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Flowers, who scored 23 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Lewis-Palmer's loss ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 14-5. As for Air Academy, they pushed their record up to 16-1 with that victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lewis-Palmer will take on the Red-Tailed Hawks at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Cheyenne Mountain will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while the Rangers are ranked 52nd). As for Air Academy, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Thunder at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Hopefully Discovery Canyon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Wednesday.
