Baseball Recap: Macomb Comes Up Short

Macomb had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 12-8 to make it four. They came up short against the Illini West Chargers, falling 8-1. The Bombers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chargers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

As for Illini West, their record now sits at 16-4. Considering they have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Illini West's part, Ethan Carlisle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up nine Ks. Carlisle has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cash Jones was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Grady Blue was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Macomb will square off against East Moline United at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Illini West, they will challenge Havana at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Chargers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Ducks have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
