Softball Recap: Charlottesville Comes Up Short

Charlottesville extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-8 in the process. They came up short against the Western Albemarle Warriors, falling 19-1. If the Black Knights were looking for revenge after losing 13-0 to the Warriors when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Charlottesville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sunny McFadden, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Western Albemarle, their win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-3. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won three matches by 15 runs or more so far this season.

On Western Albemarle's side, Katherine Heilman was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Heilman was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with four RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Ella Wagner was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Peyton Abell also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Looking ahead, Charlottesville will head out to challenge Orange County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Fighting Hornets' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Black Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Western Albemarle, they will welcome Albemarle at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
