Baseball Game Preview: Masuk Panthers vs. Bethel Wildcats

Masuk and Bethel are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Panthers will take on the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Masuk sitting on seven straight wins and Bethel on five.

On Sunday, Masuk needed a bit of extra time to put away New Milford. They had just enough and edged out the Green Wave 6-5.

Jacob Mondo looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jackson Zylick, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Christopher Cascella also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Masuk lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Bethel earned a 6-3 victory over Newtown on Saturday. That's two games straight that the Wildcats have won by exactly three runs.

Masuk's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.75 runs across that stretch. As for Bethel, their record now sits at 17-2.

Masuk couldn't quite finish off Bethel in their previous matchup on May 2nd and fell 5-3. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
