Baseball Recap: Hunt Find Success

After only one run in their last game, Hunt made sure to put some runs up on the board against Smithfield-Selma on Thursday. The Warriors' pitchers stepped up to hand the Spartans a 14-0 shutout. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Will Doll made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He has become a key player for Hunt: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise.

In other pitching news, Jake Harris looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hunt is undefeated when Harris allows one or fewer hits, but 6-7 otherwise.

Back at the plate, Mattox McKeel was a standout: he went 2-for-5 with four runs, one triple, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Hunt's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-7 when he doesn't). Angel Saldona was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

Hunt always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Smithfield-Selma only posted an OBP of .067.

Hunt's win bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Smithfield-Selma, their loss was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-16.

Hunt has already played their next contest, a 4-1 victory against Millbrook on the 12th. As for Smithfield-Selma, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 3-1 defeat against North Johnston on the 12th.
