Softball Recap: Northwood Comes Up Short

Northwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Loyola College Prep Flyers. The Falcons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Flyers earlier this season, when they won 11-1.

Devan Ashby was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Abbi Rodgers was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Gabrielle Lattier was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Northwood's record now sits at 6-15. As for Loyola College Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 5-9.

Northwood and Loyola College Prep could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Louisiana Rankings. Northwood (ranked 206th) will meet Anacoco (ranked 44th) at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Loyola College Prep will square off against Glenbrook at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 171 places (261 vs. 90).
