AAAA Region 2 recap Nov. 7, 2012
Westside extended the longest winning streak in AAAA Region 2 this week by beating Howard, 40-3. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
Westside took down Howard 40-3 last week, the largest margin of any game.
West Laurens's dynamic duo of Garrel Quainton and Calvin Walker proved tough for Baldwin to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Quainton threw for 114 yards and Walker had 30 yards receiving. Valtuan Parks helped West Laurens' passing attack out by catching three balls for 28 yards.
Nick Davis was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 140 yards as Mary Persons lost to the Braves. Josh Mays also contributed to the rushing game with 100 yards on the ground.
On the ground, the Bulldogs' Davis has rushed for 1080 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Macey Zellner. The Mary Persons star has 18 catches for 346 yards.
Two of the top units in AAAA Region 2 will face off this week when Mary Persons takes on West Laurens. Brian Nelson's team's offense has racked up 230 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while the Raiders have allowed only 133 on the year.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when West Laurens and the Bulldogs face off next week. Demarcus Davis has dominated opposing QBs with a total of 5.5 sacks, while Quainton has 813 passing yards and five touchdowns on the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Mary Persons takes on the Raiders. The Bulldogs are currently in second, while West Laurens is in third.
There should be lots of points scored when Mary Persons and the Raiders face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Bulldogs comes in having scored 230 this season, while West Laurens has scored 141. Mary Persons scored 21 points last week as it topped Veterans.
