Baseball Game Preview: New Albany Bulldogs vs. Pontotoc Warriors

The New Albany Bulldogs will head out to take on the Pontotoc Warriors at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Pontotoc took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on New Albany, who comes in off a win.

New Albany was handed a 18-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They skirted past Alcorn Central 4-2.

Connor Yarbrough spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, New Albany saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Darion Jackson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Another was Parker Hicks, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Pontotoc and East Union have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Thursday. Pontotoc lost 11-4 to East Union.

Braxton Whiteside made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one RBI. Cayson Witcher also deserves some recognition as he stole his first stolen base of the season.

Pontotoc's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.2 runs. As for New Albany, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

New Albany suffered a grim 26-8 defeat to Pontotoc in their previous meeting last Friday. Can New Albany avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
