Recap: Illiana Christian Vikings vs. Hanover Central Wildcats
If the Illiana Christian Vikings were riding high off their 48-20 takedown of the Heritage Christian Defenders on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Illiana Christian lost to Hanover Central at home by a decisive 46-30 margin on Thursday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Illiana Christian in their matchups with Hanover Central: they've now lost four in a row.
Illiana Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cheyenne DeJong, who scored 7 points along with 16 rebounds. DeJong is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ella Olthof, who scored 6 points along with 10 rebounds and 3 steals.
Hanover Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gabi Comia led the charge by scoring 14 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Comia hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Eckart, who scored 4 points.
Illiana Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Hanover Central, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.
Illiana Christian will head out on the road to face off against Highland at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Highland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven last Saturday. Hanover Central won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Whiting at 7:00 p.m. on December 1st. Whiting is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
