Baseball Recap: Richwoods' Winning Streak Snapped at Eight Games

Richwoods dropped their record down to 12-7 on Monday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Normal Community Ironmen. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Knights' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Normal Community, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

For Normal Community's part, Jacob Engel tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave Engel a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Andrew Naour and Brady Burkhart did most of the damage at the plate: Naour went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Burkhart went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That's the most hits Naour has posted over his last 12 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Heineman, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Coming up, Richwoods will challenge Peoria Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Normal Community will be paying especially close attention to the Knights' game: after the Knights face off against the Irish, they'll take on Normal Community again at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
