Baseball Recap: Northland Pines Snags Eighth Victory in Last Ten Games

After losing to Lakeland the last time they met, Northland Pines decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Eagles walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Thunderbirds on Thursday.

Jonathan Miller made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Northland Pines is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 5-6 otherwise. Miller was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Miller wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Griffin Beyer, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was Beyer's first of the season. Alex Wethington was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

Northland Pines is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.9 runs over those games. As for Lakeland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northland Pines will challenge Medford at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Lakeland, they will face off against Three Lakes at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
