Baseball Recap: Chaparral Pumas vs. Great Oak Wolfpack
Chaparral extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping their season record down to 11-7 in the process. They lost 11-0 to the Great Oak Wolfpack. Considering the last time the Pumas couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.
Chaparral got a good showing from Colby Creamer, who struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Creamer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.
As for Great Oak, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-13. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for them this season.
On Great Oak's side, Reagan Ricken made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Ricken has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double. He has become a key player for Great Oak: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-13 otherwise.
In other batting news, Wes Shanabarger and Jaxon Valenzuela did most of the damage at the plate: Shanabarger went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Valenzuela went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Those three hits gave Shanabarger a new career-high. Gavin Fien was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
While Chaparral had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
