The Westlake Wildcats will challenge the Walter Panas Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Westlake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Westlake will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against Blind Brook on Tuesday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 18-2 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Gianluca Persampieri tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Keith Haecker and Marcus Jackette did most of the damage at the plate: Haecker went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Jackette got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those three runs gave Jackette a new career-high. Mikey Sica was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Westlake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Blind Brook only posted a batting average of .158.
Meanwhile, Walter Panas entered their tilt with Westlake with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 4-1.
Nick DiMaso spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Walter Panas saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Malfant, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs. The Panthers are undefeated when Malfant posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-3 otherwise.
Walter Panas pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Westlake, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Westlake came up short against Walter Panas in their previous meeting on Monday, falling 4-1. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
