Football Recap: Rye Wins High-Profile Game Against Somers

Rye faced Somers in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Garnets came out on top against the Tuskers by a score of 17-7. For the Garnets, this counts as revenge for the 35-21 victory the Tuskers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2024.

Carson Miller went supernova, throwing for 258 yards and two touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also rushing for 113 yards on only 15 carries. Those 113 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Henry Shoemaker was another key player, picking up 158 receiving yards.

Rye has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 40.0 points this season. As for Somers, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Rye and Somers will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Garnets will take on rival Fox Lane at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Somers is set to square off against their familiar foe Yorktown at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
