Softball Recap: Cumberland Starts Season with Loss at Home

Cumberland unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 11-0 to the Dieterich Movin Maroons on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pirates of the 8-7 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Cumberland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ashton Tolen, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases Tolen has posted since back in April of 2024.

Looking ahead, Cumberland will square off against Teutopolis at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Dieterich, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Marshall at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
