Baseball Game Preview: East Marshall Mustangs vs. Union Knights

The East Marshall Mustangs will head out to challenge the Union Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. East Marshall will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

East Marshall took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Vinton-Shellsburg, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Mustangs narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Vikings 6-4.

Meanwhile, Union hadn't done well against Jesup recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Knights came out on top against the J-Hawks by a score of 11-8. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Knights considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

East Marshall pushed their record up to 8-9 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Union, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season.

East Marshall came up short against Union in their previous matchup back in June of 2024, falling 9-5. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
