Softball Recap: Fairfield Takes a Loss

Fairfield had lost four straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 8-11 to make it five. They came up short against the James Buchanan Rockets, falling 8-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rockets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-1 back in March.

Fairfield saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Klinedinst, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.

As for James Buchanan, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-9. The result was nothing new for the Rockets, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

On James Buchanan's side, Lilianna Wiley made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Wiley has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emileigh Linn, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Madisyn Amsley was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fairfield will venture away from home to take on Newport at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for James Buchanan, they will take on Waynesboro at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
