Softball Recap: Deer Creek-Mackinaw Triumphs

Deer Creek-Mackinaw's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the El Paso-Gridley Titans, sneaking past 8-6. The win continues a trend for the Chiefs in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won six in a row.

Mackenzie Knowles made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Lexi Cottingham was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Byrkleigh Kraft was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Deer Creek-Mackinaw's victory bumped their record up to 14-10. As for El Paso-Gridley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-19 record this season.

Deer Creek-Mackinaw will be playing in front of their home fans against Illinois Valley Central at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in the Chiefs' favor as the squad sits on seven straight wins at home while the Grey Ghosts have been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road. El Paso-Gridley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
