Holy Cross is 9-1 against Dunmore since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Crusaders will host the Bucks at 4:30 p.m. Holy Cross is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
If Holy Cross beats Dunmore with eight runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Crusaders came out on top against Old Forge by a score of 8-4 on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Crusaders.
AVA SCHMIDT spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Holy Cross let MIA GALELLA and LILA KOLCHARNO run wild. GALELLA went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while KOLCHARNO went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. CLAIRE HELRING was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Dunmore, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over Western Wayne on Wednesday.
Paige Ancherani was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. Ancherani was also solid in the batter's box, earning two runs and two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jaclyn Brown was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
Dunmore's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Holy Cross, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Holy Cross has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Dunmore struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Holy Cross was able to grind out a solid victory over Dunmore in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 6-3. Do the Crusaders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bucks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
