Basketball Recap: Cairo Takes a Loss

Cairo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 21st straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt an 86-29 loss at the hands of the Monroe Golden Tornadoes. The Syrupmakers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-15.

Monroe was led to victory by Kie'Aundria Acree and Taylor Mckinzy. Acree dropped a double-double on 44 points and 15 rebounds, while Mckinzy dropped a double-double on 31 points and 11 boards. That makes it 14 consecutive games in which Acree has scored at least a third of Monroe's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Toye, who posted seven boards and three steals.

Cairo's record now sits at 0-7. As for Monroe, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cairo will take on Dougherty at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Monroe, they will square off against Westover at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Monroe is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.3 points per game this season.
