Softball Recap: Utica Comes Up Short

Utica had taken Lakeview down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Friday. The Chieftains took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Huskies. The Chieftains were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Huskies apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Violet Smith put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Rachel Durecki was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. Mckenna Bock also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Utica and nudges their season record down to 3-3. As for Lakeview, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Coincidentally, Utica and Lakeview will both be playing Utica Ford the next time they take the field. The Huskies will head out to face the Falcons at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Chieftains will host them at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
