Basketball Recap: Willcox's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak on the Road

Willcox lost against Morenci back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Willcox Cowboys fell just short of the Morenci Wildcats by a score of 46-43. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Cowboys have suffered since February 8, 2024.

Morenci's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tiara Jones, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds. With that strong performance, Jones is now averaging an impressive 8.4 rebounds per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Rozlyn Funari, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

Willcox's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-4. As for Morenci, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 8-11 record this season.

Willcox will welcome St. David at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Willcox is on a six-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), St. David a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Morenci, they will challenge Round Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
