Baseball Game Preview: East Lake Eagles vs. Sickles Gryphons

For the second straight game, East Lake will face off against Sickles. The Eagles will take on the Gryphons at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. East Lake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

East Lake heads in on the heels of a playoff contest on Wednesday. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sickles.

For Sickles' part, Brandon Gonzales was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts Gonzales has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jaden Nazar was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Zach Dial, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Sickles was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Lake only posted a batting average of .167.

Sickles is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for East Lake, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 21-9.
