Softball Recap: Mesquite Wins Going Away Against Cholla

Mesquite won the last time they faced Cholla and things went their way on Monday too. The Mesquite Wildcats put the hurt on the Cholla Chargers with a sharp 18-3 win. Considering the Wildcats' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Liliana Ontiveros made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Olivia Romans was a standout: she scored four runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3. Mia Gutierrez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

Mesquite always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory got Mesquite back to even at 4-4. As for Cholla, they dropped their record down to 0-4 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mesquite will head out to square off against Thunderbird at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Thunderbird will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Mesquite surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cholla, they will face off against Flowing Wells at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
