California has gone a perfect 10-0 against Dougherty Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Grizzlies will head out on the road to take on the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (California 3, Dougherty Valley 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
California barely beat Amador Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Grizzlies were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Dons on Tuesday. At the plate, Jayda Crosby was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Stiner, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
California was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .529. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Dougherty Valley hadn't done well against Granada recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Matadors. The win was nothing new for the Wildcats as they're now sitting on four straight.
Dougherty Valley's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Katie Osborn, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. Osborn has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Another was Marisa Rhee, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
California pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Dougherty Valley, their record is now 8-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. California hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Dougherty Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
California came out on top in a nail-biter against Dougherty Valley in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Grizzlies since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
