Volleyball Recap: DeKalb Gets the Win

DeKalb lost to Genoa-Kingston back in September of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Wednesday. The Barbs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Cogs. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Barbs.

DeKalb had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The final score came out to 15-25, 25-16, 25-20.

Isabelle Smith paced DeKalb's offense, picking up seven kills. Smith got some help from Maddi Hollar and her 11 assists. Hollar was also solid from the service line: she led the team with eight aces.

The victory got DeKalb back to even at 2-2. As for Genoa-Kingston, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-5.

Looking ahead, DeKalb will be playing at home against Batavia at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Genoa-Kingston, they will challenge Ottawa at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The last three games the Pirates have played have been within one set, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
