League recap: Highland Park moves into state Top 25

4A Region II District 10 recap December 3, 2013

Highland Park was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after besting Mansfield Legacy. The Scots came in at 23 in the state poll after placing at number 46 last week.

Highland Park extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region II District 10 this week by beating the Broncos, 48-0. This was the team's 12th consecutive win.

Poteet's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Lane Novy threw for 438 and 6 touchdowns and Kody Edwards had 161 yards receiving. On the ground Jaylon Smith chipped in 86 yards. Deandre McNeal helped Poteet's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 99 yards.

Smith was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 86 yards on 20 carries as the Pirates topped Whitehouse. Walter Dawn Jr. also contributed to the rushing game with 62 yards on the ground.

Poteet's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Pirates feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Novy has thrown for 3,095 yards and 30 touchdowns this season, while Edwards has 57 catches for 1,229 yards.

Newman Smith moved up to 521 from 558 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league.
