Baseball Game Preview: St. Stephen's & St. Agnes Saints vs. Landon Bears

For the second straight game, St. Stephen's & St. Agnes will face off against Landon. The Saints will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Bears at 4:30 p.m. St. Stephen's & St. Agnes has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 4.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between St. Stephen's & St. Agnes and Landon, and Landon kept the tradition alive. The Saints lost 16-6 to the Bears on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Saints have suffered against the Bears since April 23, 2021.

For Landon's part, James Gibson was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Gibson has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Landon's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zach Burstein, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Burstein, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Landon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Landon's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for St. Stephen's & St. Agnes, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.
