Basketball Recap: Manteo Redskins vs. First Flight Nighthawks

If Manteo was riding high fresh off their 92-56 takedown of Cape Hatteras last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Manteo Redskins fell 64-51 to the First Flight Nighthawks on Thursday. The Redskins have struggled against the Nighthawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Manteo saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Zay Banks went 11 for 22 on his way to 26 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Those 26 points gave Banks a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kai McGilberry, who posted ten points and seven rebounds.

Mason Dobie was his usual excellent self, putting up 33 points for First Flight. Another player making a difference was Brayden Johnson, who had nine points.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Manteo will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while.
