Basketball Game Preview: Cornerstone Family Saints vs. Waverly Bulldogs

The Cornerstone Family Saints will face off against the Waverly Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Cornerstone Family's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests.

Cornerstone Family's tournament run continued when they took on Chanute Christian on Friday. The Saints breezed past Chanute Christian to the tune of 64-33. That 31 point margin sets a new team best for the Saints this season.

Cornerstone Family found their leader in sophomore Gabe Smith, who shot 58% from the field to rack up 16 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. The game was Smith's fifth in a row with at least 16 points. Judah Brown was another key player, putting up nine points and seven boards.

Cornerstone Family smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Waverly kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They fell 43-30 to Cair Paravel.

Cornerstone Family's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Waverly, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Cornerstone Family skirted past Waverly 47-44 in their previous meeting back in December of 2019. Will the Saints repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
