Softball Game Preview: Marblehead Magicians vs. Boston Latin Academy Dragons

The Marblehead Magicians will head out to square off against the Boston Latin Academy Dragons at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Marblehead had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Ipswich on Friday. The Magicians' pitchers stepped up to hand the Tigers a 14-0 shutout. The Magicians not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since May 15, 2024.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Boston Latin Academy). Everything went their way against East Boston on Thursday as they made off with a 21-1 win.

Lillianna Telesford was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Claire Hauck was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Maddie Andrade, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI and two runs.

Boston Latin Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.

Marblehead's record is now 2-0. As for Boston Latin Academy, their record now sits at 3-1.

Marblehead was able to grind out a solid victory over Boston Latin Academy when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 7-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Magicians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
