Basketball Recap: Morgan County Comes Up Short

Morgan County and Russell squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Morgan County had to settle for second. They came up short against the Russell Red Devils, falling 61-35. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 174th, while the Red Devils are ranked 44th).

Russell's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kamryn Fleming, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. Those 16 points gave Fleming a new career-high. Shelby Campbell also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Morgan County and nudges their season record down to 11-18. As for Russell, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-7 record this season.

Morgan County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Russell, they will face off against Menifee County at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
