Baseball Recap: Berkeley Comes Up Short

Berkeley managed to slip by Castro Valley the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Yellowjackets lost 7-1 to the Trojans on Wednesday. The Yellowjackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Berkeley got a good showing from Sasha Spahr, who didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Spahr has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Akanni Owodunni made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. He is becoming a predictor of Berkeley's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 2-1 (and 5-8 when he doesn't).

Berkeley dropped their record down to 7-9 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Castro Valley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.

While Berkeley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
