Softball Recap: Mingo Central Comes Up Short

Mingo Central had lost six straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 4-8 to make it seven. They lost 12-4 to the Tolsia Rebels. That's two games in a row now that the Miners have lost by exactly eight runs.

As for Tolsia, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by eight runs or more this season.

For Tolsia's part, Kalynn Salmons was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Salmons has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with six stolen bases and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Tolsia let Carly Johnson and Ava Lyons run wild. Johnson got on base in all four of her plate appearances with seven stolen bases and two runs, while Lyons went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI Lyons has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Keira Maynard, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Coming up, Mingo Central will head out on the road to square off against Van at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.95 runs per game on average), something the Miners will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Tolsia, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against West Carter at 6:00 p.m.
