Basketball Recap: Coral Glades Gets the Win

Coral Glades won the last time they faced Taravella and things went their way on Thursday too. The Coral Glades Jaguars had just enough and edged the Taravella Trojans out 53-50. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Trojans are ranked 215th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gavin Reed continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 17 points and six rebounds. Donovan Swain was another key player, earning ten points and six boards.

Coral Glades smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Taravella only pulled down five offensive boards.

When it comes to explaining why Taravella lost, don't look at Nick Florea. Despite the final result, he went 8 for 13 en route to 20 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Terry Ettiene, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine boards.

Coral Glades has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.5 points per game. As for Taravella, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-8.

Coral Glades will host Coral Springs at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Taravella has already played their next contest, a 72-61 win against Fort Lauderdale on the 17th.
