Softball Recap: Braden River Comes Up Short

Braden River had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 3-17 to make it five. They came up short against the Sarasota Sailors, falling 17-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Sailors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-0 back in March.

As for Sarasota, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Considering they have won 14 contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Sarasota's part, Tyler Sciesinski made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Sciesinski was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Sarasota let Sommer Speers and Mady Pint run wild. Speers went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Pint went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Speers has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gia Depastino, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Braden River didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 18-0 victory against Bayshore on the 21st. As for Sarasota, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 9-8 win against Lakewood Ranch on the 22nd.
