Softball Game Preview: Wakeland Wolverines vs. Reedy Lions

Wakeland is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will head out on the road to square off against the Reedy Lions at 6:45 p.m. Wakeland's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Reedy's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Wakeland is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Emerson with a sharp 15-5 victory on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Wakeland got a great performance from Jordan Mcnees as she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Kaylee Kinney was a standout: she scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Reese Thomas was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

Meanwhile, Reedy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Rockwall, falling 11-1.

Reedy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sierra Petersdorf, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

Reedy's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Wakeland, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.

Wakeland beat Reedy 7-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will Wakeland repeat their success, or does Reedy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
